Privacy notice
This notice explains how Owen Dawson, trading as webdawson (“I”, “me”, “my”), collects and uses your personal data when you visit this website or send an enquiry, and the rights you have under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
I am the data controller for the information you provide. If you have any questions, the contact details are at the bottom of this page.
What I collect
When you send an enquiry through this site, I collect:
- Your name and email address
- Your phone number, business name and current website address, if you choose to give them
- What you tell me about the project — including the budget range and timeframe you select
- The page you sent the enquiry from and the site you arrived from, so I know which pages actually bring in work. If you came from one of my adverts, that includes the campaign and search term the ad link carried, which your browser holds for that visit only
If you accept cookies, limited technical and usage data is also collected through analytics (see below).
What I use it for
- Replying to your enquiry and quoting for the work
- Carrying out and managing any project you go ahead with
- Keeping records for accounting and legal obligations
- Understanding how the site is used and which adverts work, so I can improve both — only with your consent
The lawful bases are: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, performing that contract, complying with legal obligations, and — for analytics and advertising cookies — your consent.
I don’t run marketing sequences off enquiry data. If you don’t become a client, your details are used to reply to you and nothing else.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
Analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you accept them via the cookie banner. If you decline, none are placed and no usage data is sent. You can change your mind at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.
If you accept and then send an enquiry, Google Ads and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) are told that an enquiry was made from one of my adverts, so I can see which adverts are worth running. Your name, email and message are never sent to them.
Who else sees it
I don’t sell your personal data. It’s stored and processed by the providers that run this site — Supabase (database hosting), Resend (email delivery), Vercel (site hosting), Google Analytics and, if you accept advertising cookies, Google Ads and Meta — and shared where the law requires it. Each is required to keep your data secure and use it only for the purposes I specify.
How long I keep it
Enquiry records are kept for as long as they’re useful for the purposes above, including legal, accounting and reporting requirements. After that they’re deleted.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access the personal data I hold about you
- Ask me to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Ask me to delete your data in certain circumstances
- Object to or restrict how I use your data
- Withdraw consent where I rely on it
To exercise any of these, email me using the address below. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
